Notable Historic buildings on Jacob Hill

Jacob Hill is an area in the center of Seekonk, Massachusetts, that has the largest concentration of  historic homes in town. 

The area encompasses all of Jacob Street, from Taunton Avenue (Rte. 44) to the Rehoboth boarder where the street name changes to Broad Street. Prospect Street from Jacob Street to the Read Street and part of Ledge Road.

Starting on a drive from 736 Ledge Road the yellow colonial house has a plaque dating it to1785. Turning left on Jacob Street which is also referred to (history) as the Old North Road.

102 Jacob Street was the Jacob’s Hill school house built some time in the 1800’s. Sold by the town and purchased by the Jacobs Hill Hunt Club in the 1920’s the club named it the Terrydiddle House it was the local residence for the MFH of the Hunt Club. Next door  is the Jacob Hill Farm,120 Jacob Street at the top of the hill for which the road was named.

204 Jacob Street with a barn was built in 1890.

Proceeding to the end of Jacob Street at 385 Jacob Street is the William H. Hunt House that dates back to 1690 and just a stones throw across the boarder into Rehoboth at 150 Broad Street is a lovely colonial with a plaque dating it 1785.

 

76 Prospect Street the Jacob Cushing House also built in 1785. 104 Prospect Street built in 1840. 

Osamequin Farm is on the corner of  Prospect Street and Walnut Street. The Aziel Carpenter Home on the farm at 80 Walnut Street was built in 1720.  

350 Prospect Street the Solon Carpenter House was built in 1875 and 540 Prospect Street was built in 1800.

At the corner of Prospect and  Walker Street is the Captain Davis Carpenter House on the top of the hill, built in 1860 now owned by the Wheeler school.

Turning left on Read Street #32 was built in 1703.

Other notable lovely 20th century homes in the area not to miss are at 21 Prospect Street and 195 Jacob Street both built during the time of the Jacobs Hill Hunt Club which attracted many affluent people to built country homes in the area.
