” Any Inn that displays this logo as having been recommended by the Select Registry has achieved a high pinnacle of success”
The History of the Select Registry and Jacob Hill Inn
In the late 1960’s a travel writer named Norman Simpson drove across North America identifying unique lodging establishments offering exceptional hospitality. He wrote the book “Country Inns and Back Roads”. With the success of Simpson’s book a non-profit organization called the Independent Innkeepers Association was formed. Their logo was a lantern and the slogan “The Shining light in hospitality”. Note that after being accepted into the association, we adopted this logo as the Jacob Hill Inn motto. Subsequently the association quickly evolved into the Select Registry.
Select Registry's Quality Assurance
Since the founder Norman Simpson, hand selected properties for his book, the IIA and now the Select Registry offer a “Quality Assurance”. The process is rigorous and thorough. Before a property is included into the group, a professional evaluator spends a night incognito and assesses hundreds of details at each. The recommendation for membership is earned and not every property passes. Existing members also must pass subsequent evaluations.
Jacob Hill Inn Receives an award for a perfect score
In an article written in the Providence Business News: Will Carlson the Executive Director of the Select Registry (at the time): said his organization of over 400 Inns is “delighted to recognize the Historic Jacob Hill Inn for its commitment to excellence” and summed it up by saying “In the entire 40 year history of our organization, no more than 10 properties have ever achieved perfect scores”
